2020 Hindsight
Well here we are, at the start of another year and another "decade" (I am not getting into that argument tonight!) Day #1 of 2020 was a great day. I slept until Noon (last night with that much sleep for a WHILE, but trying to get to bed earlier in 2020 (don't I ALWAYS say that on 1/1/YR?)) Spent most of 1/1/20 with family and watching Bowl Games (and, yes, catching up on some work email and tasks getting ready for the re-entry to the office tomorrow (hope I do not get the bends!!)) And I have known the theme for 2020 since about March of 2019. As I turned 50, it made me look back and think about the first 1/2 century of my life and the years to come, likely to be fewer than 50, but hopefully as many good years as possible! And, as I reflected back, I realized that, in 2020, that should be the theme. "Hindsight is 2020" so 2020's theme will be 2020 Hindsight. I will use each night's reflections to look back. The duration reviewed will vary, sometimes it'll be the events of the day, sometimes of the week, sometimes the month, or sometimes it'll be more of a "This Day in YYYY" kind of reflection. As always, I will do my best to find something lucky or positive, an image, an inspirational song, something to be thankful for. Yes, I think 2020 will be its own theme title, but will be a combination of what I have been doing for the past 7 years. When I started in 2013 I NEVER thought it would go this long, but I am really glad it has. Having the daily discipline (and yes sometimes FORCING myself) to find something positive to post about at the end of each day allows me to have a good frame of mind as I head to bed. It's kind of the equivalent of the martial rule of "do not go to bed angry." So it allows me to go to bed, freer of anger at myself and at the world around me (in addition to being anger free for the folks in my household as well). I think this has reduced my stress and has contributed to better physical, emotional, and mental health. And, if I am going to make it most of those next 50 years, good health will be KEY! So, again, HAPPY NEW YEAR and I hope your 2020 has started off well. I am sure I will have a LOT to look back on for 2020. It's a year of milestones (I am already aware of 3 graduations, 1 wedding, 1 start of college, and my 30th reunion from Penn). Hope you have some great milestones ahead and that you can reflect back and see good things!
