2020 Hindsight: A Celebration Despite COVID

The 163rd day brought me to another event in the theme of my hindsight from last Friday.  Yes, on 6/11/2020 we had another milestone: modified not missed.  When I realized that the Little League season's cancellation would lead to a loss of a season of Snack Stand.  But one thing HAD to happen.  6/11 also happens to be the birthday of the daughter of a good friend and neighbor who, 7 years ago, was watching her son play a baseball game on her daughter's 4th birthday.  We wanted to make it special for her even though the game was featuring her brother, so we pulled out a funnel cake, baked it up, put a slab of ice cream on it, and, voila!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAZEL!  Well, tonight we commemorated her 11th (PALINDROME) birthday and we did it in our old familiar place (the SNACK STAND), but we had to sub an Eggo Waffle in place of a funnel cake (fun fact, the smallest increment of funnel cakes I could find was a case of 48.... that's even too much cake for me!)  And we sang, and she blew out the candles, and she ate the WHOLE thing!  :-D  So my 2020 Hindsight for tonight is a celebration despite COVID.  Yes, it was a different confection under that ice cream.  Yes I wore a mask (but also remembered to wear my Snack Stand Shirt!)  And we honored the day in the best way we could.  I love traditions and I hope this one continues for years to come.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAZEL!
