2020 Hindsight: Blessed Happenstance

So, if a movie was made about the relationship between Sarah and me, it would start with us being in the same room, at the same time, and not even knowing it.  Yes, on the 199th day of 2020, I thought a lot about 8/31/94.  Yes, that was almost 26 years before 7/17/2020, but that was the day that Sarah arrived at Penn and stopped in to get her PennCard.  Two months before that, I had left my job at the PennCard Center and went to the other side of the Cubicle Wall in 323A 3401 and started my first managerial job at Penn as the Meal Contracts Coordinator.  So, faithful listeners, I did NOT know Sarah was on the other side of that wall. But, as fate would have it, Sarah decided to join the Penn Band and now, almost 26 years later we are celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary.  But, what if Sarah had chosen to go Pre-Med (likely at Duke) instead of determining that Nursing was her choice and deciding to go to the best Nursing School in the Nation (yes, she did not know Penn before then)?  What if there had not been a long line at Murph's so she decided to cone over to watch TV?  What if she had not taken a SOCI class where she did an online survey (in a USENET Group upenn.general, for those of you playing at home who like old-school online)?  There are many more happenstances that eventually brought us together and started us on this amazing familial journey.  So, my 2020 Hindsight is Blessed Happenstance.  I am glad all of these little, simple occurrences happened and we found each other.  Happy Anniversary again, Sarah.  Here's to many, many more and the new adventures that lie in wait for us, with their happenstances and all!
