2020 HIndsight: It was a Senior Day of sorts
Well, the 2019-2020 School Year has been filled with a lot of lasts. And, on the 198th day of 2020, we got to have a last I actually did not think we would get to have. We got through Field Hockey Senior Day (wow, that seems like a century ago) and Basketball Senior Day, and we thought we'd lost the chance for Senior Day #3, Softball. BUT, thanks to a last minute creation of a Last Dance Tournament, on 7/16/2020, we got to have a game and honor the Seniors of Collingswood High School Softball. My 2020 Hindsight is that it was a Senior Day of sorts. It was not what we had foreseen, but Alexa, Breanne, and Abby got to play one last series with the HS team and, tonight one last game. And, in the spirit of milestones modified, not missed, there were still flowers, and their banners, and cookies, and, yes, I teared up a bit. Collingswood Softball was 3-18 in Alexa's Freshman Season. In her Sophomore Season they won their first playoff game in 30+ years. Last Year, they finished over .500 and with the addition of a very talented Class of 2023, this season was shaping up to be a really good one. But.... COVID. And we did not let that stop us from celebrating the players who helped build the foundation of a team on the up and up. Cannot wait to continue to follow this team and its talented players. And, by the way, love that so many of them started in Oaklyn Little League (must be the snack stand!) Congratulations Alexa, Breanne, and Abby. Keep Swinging for the Fences!
