2020 Hindsight: Honoring Powerful Women

For most of the 263rd day of 2020, I have been thinking about all of the women who have played such an important role in society and, specifically in my life.  It started last night with the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a woman who dedicated her entire life, even when sick and dying, to the defense of rights of the under-represented.  It was moving to see all of the posts from my friends who were mourning the loss of such an amazing woman, one who has inspired many many more.  Then, in the morning of 9/19/2020, we were mourning the loss, but also celebrating the life, of Delilah Yvonne Wooten Marrow.  Delilah was a pillar of many churches (I realized during her Memorial Service how many churches, and members of these churches, she has inspired) including Old First Reformed UCC.  And, she too, fought for the rights of the under-represented and inspired many, especially young, black women to further their lived and careers in the Church.  And I started to think about all of the powerful, inspiring women in MY life.  From my grandmothers, aunts and cousins, to, of course, my Mom and my sister, and of course of course the amazing three women who live in my household.  My 2020 Hindsight is honoring powerful women.  My life has been shaped, enriched, and improved by many, many powerful women and I wish society would recognize their influence more.  I have said it before, if we had more women in leadership, I believe the World would be a better place.  I look forward to a future where it can and will happen.
